In your update email today:
- A mad night in the Champions League
- 8/1 Gerrard goes top of the charts…
- Last night’s results
It was a bit of a mad night in the Champions League last night, with 19
goals scored in the 4 games…
Bayern Munich 7 Sporting Lisbon 1 (aggregate 12-1 Bayern)
Juventus 2 Chelsea 2 (aggregate 3-2 Chelsea)
Panathinaikos 1 Villarreal 2 (aggregate 3-2 Villarreal)
Liverpool 4 Real Madrid 0 (aggregate 5-0 Liverpool)
And on the betting front things didn’t go our way at all. Liverpool and
their boss Rafa Benitez had been getting some stick in the press for
playing ‘defensively’ ahead of last night’s game with Real Madrid – but
they came flying out the blocks yesterday, playing all-out attack. And
winning 4 corners in the first 4 minutes, which effectively put pay to
our ‘Under 11 Corners’ bet early on.
- The good news from that Liverpool result was that Steven Gerrard
scored 2 goals – we’re on him at 7/1 or 8/1 each way to be the Top Scorer this season (see below).
Over in Turin, Chelsea managed to pick up 5 yellow cards against Juventus
– but that still wasn’t enough to land our ‘Most Booking Points’ bet on
them. Chelsea were ahead on the Booking Points tally in the 91st minute,
before a 92nd minute Del Piero booking capped off a bad evening for us.
You can view the full results below.
There are 4 more games tonight, and I’ll write to you this afternoon with
our recommended bets on them. After last night’s results, we’re of course
looking to get back to winning ways straight away. There look to be some
good Corner Handicaps on offer – check your email later for the bets.
Highs, lows – and goals, goals, goals
All 4 games went ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ last night – with an incredible 8 goals
on the scoreboard in Germany…
Bayern Munich thrashed Sporting Lisbon 7-1, and in doing so racked up the highest ever aggregate score in a Champions League tie – winning 12-1 over the two legs.
At the other end of the spectrum…
Man Utd and Inter Milan play at Old Trafford tonight, with the tie level
at 0-0 after the 1st leg. No Champions League knockout tie has ever
finished goalless over both legs – so if it’s 0-0 again this evening,
that’ll be another result for the Champions League record books.
- The current lowest aggregate score over two legs is 1-0, which has happened 9 times. The most recent of those was last season, when Man Utd drew 0-0 at Barcelona then beat them 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Last night’s results
Unfortunately, all 3 of our recommended bets missed the mark last night.
That’s the first time that’s happened in two seasons of running this
Champions League service. The good news is there are still 10 more match-
days and stacks of betting opportunities to come – starting tonight. And
our big-odds Top Scorer bets are looking in good shape, too.
Liverpool 4 Real Madrid 0
Corners = 14
Recommended bet:
‘Under 10 Corners’ and a saver bet on ‘Exactly 10’ – LOST
Real Madrid kept their side of the bargain – winning just 4 corners – but
a rampant Liverpool side racked up 10 corner kicks, including 4 in the
first 4 minutes of the game.
- The Booking Points tally finished 30-30 in this game (3 yellow
cards each). So if you took note of our comments on that market (60%
stake on Liverpool ‘Most Booking Pts’ @ 13/5 and 40% on the Bookings
‘Tie’ @ 4/1), you’ll have doubled your money on those bets.
Juventus 2 Chelsea 2
Bookings Points = Juventus 55, Chelsea 50
Recommended bet:
Chelsea to get the ‘Most Booking Points’ @ 5/4 and a saver bet on the
‘Tie’ @ 4/1 – LOST
Chelsea were 50-45 ahead on the Booking Points with just one minute of
the game left, but a late Juventus yellow card cost us our bet.
That’s the first time the home team has got the most Booking Points in a
Chelsea away Champions League game since April 2007 (14 games ago).
Panathinaikos 1 Villarreal 2
Bookings Points = 10
Recommended bet:
‘50 Or More’ Booking Points @ 8/11 – LOST
There was just one yellow card in this game – the lowest total in any of
Panathinaikos and Villarreal’s home / away Champions League games
this season.
8/1 Top Scorer update…
Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard scored 2 more goals last night, taking him
joint-top of the Champions League Top Scorer chart with 7 goals (Bayern
Munich’s Miroslav Klose is the other player on 7 goals).
If you’ve been a member since the autumn you’ll have backed Gerrard to be
the Top Scorer at 8/1 each way. And if you joined in February or March
you’ll have got him at 7/1 each way as one of your ‘bonus tips’ when you
joined.
Our other Top Scorer pick - Lionel Messi at 9/2 each way – is in action for
Barcelona against Lyon tonight. So far Messi has 5 goals to his name…
Look out for your next email with tonight’s bets in very soon…
Best wishes,
Matt Nesbitt
