How it stands - after the 1st leg...
It was stalemate in the Camp Nou last week. Manchester United did
have the opportunity to score from the penalty spot, but Cristiano
Ronaldo struck his kick just wide.
To Qualify for the Final, Man Utd need to win to go through, a 0-0
score-line will send the game into Extra Time.
Barcelona will reach the final if they win at Old Trafford or if
the game finishes in a score draw (1-1, 2-2 etc).
Corners
If we take a look at the stats, Man Utd average 9.2 Corners For at
home in the Champions League (CL) this season, and 4.0 Against.
Barcelona average 6.8 Corners For per away game and 3.2 Against.
With United chasing the win that will insure their passage through
to the Final they can be expected to put a lot of pressure on the
Barcelona goal. That would indicate the home team can dominate the
Corner count too.
Manchester United have won the Most Corners in 100% of their home
CL games this season:
F-A
6-2
13-4
7-3
7-3
13-8
(F-A = Corners For and Against)
United are available at '-2' on the 'Corner Handicap' tonight, a
bet that would have won in 100% of their home matches this season.
The Stats Say:
- Man Utd to win the Most Corners @ 4/9 with Blue Square and
888 Sport, also check Betfair as well
Or
- Man Utd '-1.5 Corner Handicap' @ 8/11 with William Hill or
Man Utd '-2 Corner Handicap' @ 11/10 with Bet365, Betdirect, Skybet
and Stan James (and have a saver bet on the 'Handicap Tie' @ 13/2)
Bookings
Man Utd have 'low' Bookings stats at home in the Champions League
this season, averaging 12.0 Bookings Points For (eg. 1 Yellow Card)
and 24.0 Against. Barcelona's away averages are much higher though
- 24.0 For and 24.0 Against. The stats don't point to a match total
bet here, but they do point towards Barcelona getting more Bookings
Points than Man Utd in tonight's game.
The Stats Say:
- Barcelona to be the 'Team Awarded the Most Bookings Points' @
20/21 with Blue Square or @ 10/11 with William Hill
Or
- Barcelona to be the 'Team Awarded the Most Cards' @ 10/11
with Ladbrokes
Also...
Have a stake saver bet on the 'Bookings Draw' @ 4/1 with William
Hill.
Goalscorers
Last week we mentioned Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the
Anytime Scorers markets. These two players are still the top 2
scorers in this season's competition. Last week's 0-0 score-line
meant both players didn't add to their impressive haul of goals
this season. But it should be also be noted that both players
remain the major goal threat for each team this evening.
For tonight's game it's also worth taking an interest in Manchester
United's Carlos Tevez. The Argentine International has scored 4 CL
goals this season, 3 of them coming at home. He scored the only
goal against Roma in the Quarter Final 2nd leg at Old Trafford. In
the Premier League this season he's notched 13 goals, 10 of them at
home. With injury worries over Wayne Rooney and the need for United
to win, Tevez is likely to start against Barcelona this evening.
The Stats Say:
- C. Tevez @ 11/4 (3.75) to 'Score Anytime' with William Hill
(or 23/10 - 3.3 - with Paddy Power)
Note:
The markets such as Corners, Bookings and Goals apply to 'normal
time' results only. If a game goes into Extra Time, Corners and
Bookings awarded in that period do not count towards the total that
the bet will be settled on.
