Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester United and Fenerbahce are all
through to the quarter finals of this year’s Champions League after
last night’s second legs.
Let’s take a closer look at last night’s action…
AC Milan 0 Arsenal 2
Fabregas 84
Abebayor 90
Arsenal produced a fantastic performance in the San Siro last night
to knock out current European Champions AC Milan. It’s the first
time an English club has beat Milan in the San Siro.
The Stats said:
- AC Milan to win the match
Actual Result:
Arsenal dominated Milan for the majority of last night’s encounter.
They left it late though, Cesc Fabregas broke the deadlock in the
84th minute - before Adebayor sealed the victory in stoppage time.
The Stats said:
Actual result:
Once again these two sides produced 11 corners. Just like in the
1st leg the home side won the majority of them. Milan won 8,
Arsenal 3 – just tipping the match over the bookies 10.5 margin.
Barcelona 1 Celtic 0
Xavi 3
Barcelona booked their place in the quarter finals with a
comfortable 1-0 win against Celtic, winning the tie 4-2 on
aggregate.
The Stats said:
- Barcelona to Win To Nil or Barcelona to win and keep a Clean
Sheet
Actual result:
Xavi’s 3rd minute strike effectively killed this tie off for
Barcelona. The Catalans dominated possession throughout the game
(65%) limiting Celtic to few chances.
The Stats said:
Actual result:
There were no cards in the Nou Camp last night, meaning 4 out of 4
Barcelona home games have been ‘Under 3.5 Cards’ this season.
The Stats said:
Actual result:
Manchester United 1 Lyon 0
Ronaldo 41
Manchester United recorded their 10th straight home victory in the
Champions League against Lyon last night, equalling the record set
by Juventus.
The Stats said:
Actual result:
Ronaldo’s goal was his 30th strike in all competitions for United
this season. He’s also joint top scorer in this year’s Champions
League competition with 6 goals.
Sevilla 3 Fenerbahce 2
Alves 5 Deivid 20
Keita 9 Deivid 79
Kanoute 41
Fenerbahce’s goalkeeper Volkan Demirel was the hero as the Turkish
side won 3-2 on penalties.
The Stats said:
Actual result:
Fenerbahce gifted Sevilla two early goals, before Deivid pulled one
back for the visitors. Frederic Kanoute restored the home sides two
goal advantage going into half time. In the 79th minute Deivid
struck again to take the tie into extra time.
The Stats said:
Actual result:
Just like the 1st leg between these two sides, last night’s match
produced 6 Yellow Cards - 2 for Sevilla, 4 for Fenerbahce. It means
that all of Fenerbahce’s away games have now produced ‘Over 3.5
Cards’.

With Liverpool’s 2nd leg tie with Inter Milan being played next
Wednesday there are only 3 x 2nd ties being played this evening.
Once again we’ve previewed each encounter using our innovative
Head-2-Head feature…
(0) Porto v Schalke (1)
1st leg results:
Goals: Under 2.5
Corners: Under 10.5 Corners
Bookings: Under 35 Booking Points
First Card: Schalke
Time of First Goal: Before 28th minute (0-15)
2nd leg Match odds:
Porto Draw Schalke
4/5 5/2 4/1
(1.8) (3.5) (5.0)
Kick off 7.45pm
Live on Sky Sports 3 (via the interactive button)
Schalke only require a draw to secure their place in the quarter
finals. A 1-0 Porto win would see the game go into extra time. The
hosts will be wary of Schalke grabbing an away goal - if they do
they need to win the match by 2 clear goals.
Goals: Both these teams’ goal stats match up well for an ‘Under 2.5
Goals’ bet. Porto average 1.66 goals for and 0.66 goals against.
Match that up with Schalke who average 0.66 goals for and 0.66
goals against, and tonight’s encounter could be a low scoring
affair. Also 2 out of 3 Porto home games have been ‘Under 2.5
Goals’. All 3 of Schalke’s away games have been ‘Under 2.5 Goals’.
The Stats say:
- Under 2.5 Goals @ 8/15 Bet365 and Stan James
Corners: Porto are averaging 8.6 corners for in their home games.
Match that with Schalke who are averaging 7.66 corners for in their
away games and an ‘Over 10.5 Corners’ bet appeals. All of Porto’s
home games have been ‘Over 10.5 Corners’ and 2 out of 3 Schalke
away games have been ‘Over 10.5 Corners’.
The Stats say:
- Over 10 Corners @ 11/10 Stan James, 10/11 with Blue Square
Bookings: Porto are rated to receive 13.3 Booking points per home
game. Schalke are rated to receive 26.6 Booking points per away
game. So a Schalke to receive the Most Cards bet looks attractive.
Also if we look at the amount of Booking points the away team have
been getting when playing Porto it’s around 31.6 points, so we know
Porto’s opponents are getting the majority of the Booking points.
The Stats say:
- Schalke to be the ‘Team Awarded the Most Bookings Points’ @
4/6 William Hill
(1) Real Madrid v Roma (2)
1st leg results:
Goals: Over 2.5 Goals
Corners: Under 10.5 Corners
Bookings: Over 35 Booking Points
First Card: Real Madrid
Time of First Goal: Before 28th minute (0-15)
2nd leg Match odds:
Real Madrid Draw Roma
4/5 13/5 5/1
(1.8) (3.6) (6.0)
Kick off 7.45pm
Live on Sky Sports 3
Roma require a draw to reach the quarter finals after their 2-1
victory in the 1st leg. A Real Madrid 1-0 win will see the Spanish
side through on the away goals rule. 2-1 to Madrid and the game
will go into extra time.
Goals: Real Madrid average 3.00 goals for at home in this season’s
competition. While Roma average 2.33 goals for in their away
matches so far this term. So an ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ bet appeals. Add
to that the fact that all of Real Madrid’s home games have been
Over the goals – and 2 out of 3 Roma away games have also been Over
the goals.
The Stats say:
- Over 2.5 Goals @ 3/4 Bet365
Corners: Real Madrid currently average 7.66 corners for in their
home games. Roma average just 3.66 in their away games. However the
standout corner stat is that Roma are currently conceding 8.33
corners per game compared to Real’s 3.0. With this in-mind a bet on
Madrid on the Corner Handicap looks attractive.
The Stats say:
- Real Madrid -1 on the Corner Handicap @ 8/11 Bet365
(0) Chelsea v Olympiacos (0)
1st leg results:
Goals: Under 2.5 Goals
Corners: Under 10.5 Corners
Bookings: Over 35 Booking Points
First Card: Chelsea
Time of First Goal: No Goals
2nd leg Match odds:
Chelsea Draw Olympiacos
2/7 4/1 12/1
(1.28) (5.0) (13.0)
Kicks off 7.45pm
Live on Sky Sports 2
A Chelsea victory will see them progress. A repeat 0-0 scoreline
will send the tie into extra time. A score draw (1-1, 2-2 etc) will
see Olympiacos progress.
Corners: Chelsea are rated to get 6.33 corners per home match,
while Olympiacos are only rated to get 3.33 corners per away match.
Couple that with Chelsea only conceding 3.66 corners per home game,
while Olympiacos concede 6.33 per away game. Suggesting Chelsea are
the bet in the Corner Handicap market.
The Stats say:
- Chelsea -2.5 on the Corner Handicap @ William Hill or Chelsea
-3 @ Evens Stan James, Betdirect and Expekt (with a ‘saver’ on the
Tie)
Bookings: Chelsea have only received 1 yellow card in 3 home games
so far in this year’s competition. Meaning they average 3.33
Booking points per home game. That’s in stark contrast to their
opponents Olympiacos who average 38.3 Booking points for per away
game. A bet on Olympaicos getting the Most Cards in tonight’s match
is the way to go.
The Stats say:
- Olympiacos to win the ‘Bookings Points Match Bet’ @ 8/13 Blue
Square or Olympiacos to get the Most Booking Points @ 4/9 William
Hill
