Manchester United and Barcelona both won their first leg Quarter
Final matches last night. United beat Roma 2-0 away while, Barcelona
came out on top in their away match against Schalke winning 1-0.
Two more Quarter Finals take place tonight including the all English
tie between Arsenal and Liverpool. The other English team involved
in the competition Chelsea, face an away trip to Fenerbahce. More on
those games later, but now let's take a look at last night's
action...
|
Roma 0
|
Man Utd 2
|
|
|
Ronaldo 39
|
|
|
Rooney 66
|
Manchester United are in a great position to make it through to the
Semi Finals beating Roma 2-0 thanks to goals by Cristiano Ronaldo
and Wayne Rooney. Ronaldo's goal was his 7th in this season's
competition. As highlighted in yesterday's emial he was available
at 11/5 to score at Anytime during last night's match. He's now the tournament's top scorer.
The Stats said:
Actual result:
There were 11 Corners in total last night. 10 of them to the home
side 1 to Man Utd. Both these teams went into last night's game with
high Corner winning capabilities, but it was Roma who dominated the
Corner count in last night's encounter.
The Stats said:
- Man Utd +1 on the Corners Handicap
Actual result:
- Roma 10 Corners, Man Utd 1
Despite their high Corners reputation, United adopted different
tactics last night. With the score 2-0 after 66 minutes it was Roma who
were desperate to get back into the tie, meaning they pushed more
men forward trying to put pressure on the United goal. Racking up an
impressive Corner total in the process.
The Stats said:
- Roma to get the Most Bookings
Actual result:
- Roma 2 Yellow Cards, Man United 1
As the stats indicated, Roma picked up the Most Bookings in the
match. 2 Roma players were booked - David Pizarro and Philippe Mexes
- while United's booking went to Anderson.
|
Schalke 0
|
Barcelona 1
|
|
|
Bojan KrKic 12
|
Barcelona won this first leg encounter 1-0 thanks to a goal by 17
year old Bojan Krkic. That goal in the 12th minute was enough to
give Barcelona the victory. Barcelona dominated possession last
night having 59% of the ball compared to Schalke's 41%. Meaning it
was very difficult for the home side to create clear cut
opportunities to get back into the match.
The Stats said:
Actual result:
The stats indicated a low Corners affair in last night's match due
to both sides Corners restricting abilities. However, with Schalke
chasing the game the total went Over 10 with Schalke winning 6
Corners compared to Barcelona's 5.
The Stats said:
- Over 4 Cards or between 21-46 Bookings Points
Actual result:
- 8 Cards in the Match/80 Bookings Points
This match looked like it was going Under the bookies marker heading
into the last 10 minutes. Only 1 player had been booked -
Barcelona's Gabriel Milito. Then came 7 Bookings - 4 for Schalke 3
for Barcelona - meaning the match ended well Over the bookies 4 Card
marker.
